Clinical Ergonomic Workstation Assessments

Are you sitting correctly?

Are you sitting correctly?

Musculoskeletal injuries are the second largest cause of absenteeism in the UK.
Results from the latest survey conducted on behalf of the Health and Safety Executive, indicate that in 2005/06 an estimated 1,020,000 people in Great Britain suffered from a musculoskeletal disorder which, in their opinion, was caused or made worse by their current or past work. (www.hse.gov.uk/statistics/causdis/stress.htm)

Work should not aggravate or cause injuries. However long periods of sustained sitting in incorrect postures at poorly designed workstations are likely to create cumulative type musculoskeletal injuries and exacerbate underlying clinical conditions.

Assessment of the risks that you as an employee are exposed to is not only good practice but in the large majority of companies a legal requirement. Workstation assessments are routine whilst the employee is relatively fit and well. However if they have underlying conditions such as whiplash, arthritis, back pain, RSI, etc. things can become rapidly more complex.

We can offer you the opportunity to have experts assess these employees and provide the opinion and information that you need.

Our ergonomic assessors are all Chartered Physiotherapists who have extensive experience in ergonomically assessing employees and their workstations. They also have all spent a considerable number of years treating musculoskeletal conditions in local clinics, national companies or the NHS. This allows them to not only provide you with sound ergonomic advice but also observe and report practical recommendations to help you and your employer manage and prevent cumulative injury through your work.

Our clinical ergonomic reports are thorough documents that are readable and highly informative. They summarise the clinical problems, the job role and the observations of the employee’s interaction with their workstation. Finally they offer reasoned recommendations of equipment that would improve the ergonomics of the workstation and practical tips to be undertaken to reduce the risk of workstation related injury.
